This is the largest and probably the most beautiful artificial lake in Greece. It was created in the 60s along with the hydroelectric dam. The dam is constantly full of water by the rivers Acheloos, Agrafiotis, Tavropos and Trikeriotis. It is situated between the prefectures of Aitoloakarnania and Evrytania which are connected with the bridge of Episkopi. The bridge is about 60 km from Agrinio and 55 km from Karpenisi.
The creation of the lake many years ago affected the lives of the residents as several villages would be found under the lake and that forced them to leave their homes and properties. Unfortunately the same goes for many historical bridges and churches such as the famous bridge of Manolis and the Byzantine church of Episkopi which was built in the 8th century and was dedicated to Virgin Mary.
The incomparable beauty of the lake with its turquoise waters, fjords and the numerous small islands will take your breath away. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy kayaking and rafting on the lake, too.
