Prousos

Prousos village is situated at an altitude of 900 meters. It is 50km from Agrinio and 33km from Karpenisi. The village has had a touristic development in the recent years and it now attracts many visitors and hikers.

Prousos Monastery is a very famous place of pilgrimage. It is one of the few monasteries that have survived in Evrytania. It consists of a church and a wing of cells. The church is dedicated to Mary Proussiotissa and dates back to 1754. The frescoes are painted by G. Georgiou and G. Anagnostou and date back to 1785. In the crypt (outer west side) you will see 13th century frescoes, while internally there are two layers, one of which dates back to 1518. The carved iconostasis of the crypt dates back to 1810.
